Our Story

Aurum Health Orchestra was founded with a simple but powerful idea: that music has the ability to heal, connect, and uplift. What began as a small group of university students and healthcare professionals with a shared love of music has grown into a vibrant volunteer orchestra on the Gold Coast. Bringing together performers from all walks of life, Aurum Health Orchestra is dedicated to promoting wellbeing through music—whether by performing in hospitals, aged care homes, or community concerts. With every performance, the orchestra strives to create moments of joy, connection, and comfort for audiences who need it most.

Our Vision

To make live orchestral music accessible to every person on the Gold Coast, regardless of their health, age or income.

Our Mission

To support community health and wellbeing through the making and sharing of music.

Our Values

Connection to the community, equity of access to music and professionalism in all our endeavours drive our progress.

Our Journey

6th July – Four medical students, Lachlan LeungRyo Takamizawa, Amy Lee, and Arya Thakur, recognised the power of music in bringing the community together and promoting wellness. Together, with only 10 official members, they launched the Harmony in Health Symphony Orchestra.

August – Membership quickly grew to 50 registered musicians from across health and medical disciplines, rehearsing and connecting weekly.

21st September – The orchestra performed its first Aged Care Tour at St Vincent’s Care and Opal HealthCare (Broadwater), sharing music and connection with local residents in a warm, meaningful performance experience.

5th October – We co-hosted our inaugural charity concert with Serotonin A Capella group, raising ~$3000 for Lifeline Australia and the Australian Children Music Foundation. The concert was a sold-out success, showcasing both musical talent and community impact.

November – Harmony in Health was awarded “Best New Society” and “Best Arts and Recreational Society” by Griffith University, recognising its rapid growth, positive culture, and unique mission.

February – We surpassed 100 active members, becoming one of the largest student-led orchestras of our kind in the university space.

September – We made great progress throughout the year, developing a consistent player base with social events and reaching the community with aged care and hospice performances. Our end-of-year charity concert reached an audience of 350 and allowed us to donate $5000 to the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation.

March – As the orchestra grows and gains recognition, we want a name that more accurately reflects our underlying purpose and values as an organisation. We say goodbye to Harmony in Health and enter 2026 with our new name: Aurum Health Orchestra. The Latin name “Aurum” pays homage to our Gold Coast origins, while tying in our connection to community and promoting wellbeing.
